The Senior Finance Manager is responsible for ensuring that the financial / management systems, procedures, controls and policies for the Barbados OpCo, Wealth Management and Trinidad are appropriate and functioning so that timely, accurate and reliable information is produced. The incumbent is responsible for the consolidation, review and commentary thereon for these operations and has the ability to critically analyse data and highlight key issues in a clear and concise manner and provide recommendations on actions to improve performance in these entities. The Senior Manager is responsible for reporting deliverables to Head Office, the Managing Director, and the Board, and reviewing monthly preparation of recurring analytical review procedures, reconciliations, fixed asset register, and the posting of journal entries. The Senior Manager plays a lead role in managing the external audit and supervises their direct reports in an efficient, high value adding manner, ensuring that the clients of the unit are given clear proactive guidance on the management of expectations.




Key Accountabilities:

  • Responsible for and ensures the timely and accurate preparation of all monthly financial statements, variance analyses of the general ledger accounts in accordance with IFRSs.


  • Responsible for managing the processing of all journal entries. This includes managing input timing, reviewing and approving entries, as well as maintaining adequate support and filing of this support as per Bank policy.


  • Prepares a monthly latest estimate file for Head Office, and reviews all reports prepared by the Senior Financial Analysts for external use by business unit heads and the Managing Directors of the Barbados & the Trinidad Operating Companies on a monthly and quarterly basis. In addition to reviewing for accuracy, responsibility includes monitoring to ensure that all reports produced are aligned with current requirements / expectations of the relevant stakeholders, i.e., responsible for ongoing assessment and the required enhancements to make sure reporting deliverables are capturing pertinent / relevant information.


  • Coordinates and controls the preparation and reconciliation of management financial information on a monthly basis. This includes the effective and efficient allocation of deliverables, and subsequent reviews for accuracy of all Group reconciliations, sub-ledger reconciliations, audit schedules, fixed asset register maintenance, eliminations, currency cube, and off balance sheet (OBS) reporting. Responsible for monthly reporting to Head Office on all outstanding suspense, nostro, and branch clearing balances.


  • Responsible for maintaining a strong control environment with regard to the finance operations by ensuring that adequate controls are in place to ensure accurate financial statements. This includes managing the quarterly production of management control tests due to Head Office.


  • Responsible for the preparation of quarterly income tax and deferred tax reporting calculations, and provides any other tax related support required from our internal tax department, including forecast analysis to support the Bank’s deferred tax positions across Barbados the EC Islands, and Trinidad.


  • Prepares all annual financial statements, with related notes, in accordance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and the Bank’s financial reporting guidelines.


  • Manages statutory audit. Contributes at a senior level to successful audit planning and coordination. Oversees preparation of audited Financial Statements and liaises with auditors to ensure audit work completed and financial statements reviewed and signed off within required deadlines. Ensures that current financial management policies and procedures employed by the Bank are properly used and adhered to.
  • People management - manages performance by providing fair and accurate formal and informal feedback, identifying and removing obstacles to performance and by explaining how performance expectations align with business priorities. Builds team and individual capabilities by providing development opportunities such as training. Manages, develops and motivates a high performing team committed to achieving success which includes the ability to effectively train and coach persons.


  • Acts as a strong support to the Financial Controller with regard to any finance requirements, and stand-in at ALCO / CMC if required. Plays a lead role in managing ad-hoc finance projects as required, e.g. acts as finance delegate to guide / inform transition to new general ledger platform, or providing accounting treatment support for the set-up new finance related initiatives.


Critical Knowledge & Skills Required:

  • Accounting designation (ACCA / CPA / CA or other similar designation)
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and organisational structure.
  • In-depth knowledge of regulations and policies, particularly those dealing with reporting for Banks and Financial Institutions.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial instruments including investment securities, hedge accounting and complex derivative transactions.
  • Good understanding of the governing regulations around banking
  • Strong knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and understanding of banking sub-ledger systems.
  • Strong planning and delegation skills
  • Proven, strong team leaderships / people management skills
  • Strong oral and written communication and presentation skills – able to correlate and present information in a professional manner
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving capabilities
  • Coaching skills to effectively deal with change related issues and financial system implications
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills; modelling techniques



Experience Required:

  • At least 5 years’ experience in a management capacity.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ prior experience working in / with financial institutions (preferably commercial banking)
  • Experience in managing multiple and competing assignments.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating audits.
